The Toyota Corolla remains a staple among compact cars. It has come a long way since its introduction in the mid-1960s.

Now marketed in its 12th generation, car experts have recommended it for years, mainly because of its high reliability.

This year, another special edition joins the Corolla lineup: the APEX, available only for the sedan class, and guess what, Android Auto is now standard for all versions!

– Two naturally aspirated engines that generate 139 and 169 horsepower

– The third engine is mated to an electric motor, generates a total of 121 horsepower. 

• The consumptions of these engines vary between 4.5 L / 100 km and 7.5 L / 100 km.

• The number of trims now available, including a hybrid version, means you can find the right Corolla for you.

• The arrival of the Toyota Corolla Apex Edition is a further step in the direction of focusing on the sportiness of compact cars. 

• The model benefits from several additions that enhance the character of the Corolla while creating an exclusive edition in the process. 

• Toyota produced only 6,000 copies of the 2021 Apex Edition, with only 1,200 to feature a manual transmission

Aesthetics Transformation

Generation after generation, Corolla is doing better in design dynamism and the 2021 model is great proof. Looking more modern and sporty than previous models made it the cherry on top.

1. The first good thing is that Toyota didn’t use the more expensive version as a base. The Corolla Apex is based on the SE sedan, which makes it quite affordable with its base price of $ 27,300. 

2. Its body benefits from an exclusive color, cement gray. It also offers a black aero package with a bronze accent. Its side skirts, rear air diffuser, and spoiler are not just cosmetic, the engineers have really tested their effectiveness on the track.

3. It offers quite a successful style, especially with its 18-inch black rims. 
4. The layout of the dashboard is neat and fancy. There is a good feeling of quality, mainly due to the use of soft materials. 

5. The Entune 3.0 infotainment system with its 7-inch touchscreen allows you to control a bit of everything, it’s easy to see and very user-friendly. The good news is that all Corollas are now compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Driving Experience 

1. On the road, you quickly notice the changes to the suspension. It’s firm, especially at the rear, impossible to believe in a normal Corolla as you can feel the bumps.

2. The addition of stabilizer bars also reduces weight transfer in the corners, by 47% in the front and 33% in the rear.

3. Without a boost in power, the engine does not give the car all the pep it wants, but the manual gearbox allows you to make good use of the available torque while increasing the feeling of control. 

4. The sports exhaust adds a nice sound to the engine.

5. The manufacturer announced a combined consumption of 7.4 liters / 100 kilometers.

How About the Downsides?

There’s no car with no downsides, that’s a fact. When we’re talking about the Corolla 2021 (in addition to 2018, 2019, 2020), you can count the problems on one hand:

• The interior space is not as spacious as it was in Corolla 2020.
• It isn’t as quick as its competitors. 
• The driving experience in snowy weather is hard.
• More road noises are heard inside the cabin with acceleration. 

At the end of the day, no matter what others think about a certain car model, it’s your choice.
